SUSTAINABILITY & IMPACT
SOPHIC is dedicated to reducing our impact on planet Earth, empowering local communities and celebrating Australia’s flora and fauna.
Here at SOPHIC we consider the environmental, social, and ecological impacts of everything we do.
EVERYTHING YOU NEED, NOTHING YOU DON'T.
Whether it is cleansers, colour or packaging, everything is designed to be multi-functional without excess packaging to reduce consumption and waste. All our cleansers are packaged in recyclable and reusable amber bottles with an aluminium lid. This glass is made from at least 70% recycled Australian glass and because of its high recycled glass content gives it the amber colour. The amber colour also helps shade the product inside from the sun protecting it from spoilage. Our conditioners and treatments are packaged in aluminium tins that are also recyclable and reusable.
KEEP IT CLOSE
We have made a conscious decision to source at least 75% of costs from local and independent suppliers. Our entire CARE range is produced with local manufacturers within a 50km radius from HQ. Keeping manufacturers close means, the distance to send product is short and the carbon footprint low. We are proud to say the entire SOPHIC Care range is made right here in Australia! Made with a minimum of 95% naturally derived ingredients, we have also featured several powerful Australian native botanicals including Kakadu Plum, Quandong, Kangaroo Apple, Lemon Myrtle, Lilly Pilly and Desert Lime. We want to honour Australia’s culture and landscape and celebrate its flora and fauna.

REFUSE, REDUCE, REUSE, REPURPOSE, RECYCLE
Recycling used to be number one, but now it’s last. We believe this is the most effective way to minimise waste and we want to educate our customers on. We encourage our customers to make conscious lifestyle choices. We offer salons our product in bulk to encourage refilling. We also have metal pumps that are sold separately. Where customers cannot refill, reuse and recycle, we educate them on responsible waste disposal through the Australasian Recycling Label Program.
SOPHIC SALONS
Our Conscious Colour System for hair professionals is particularly innovative as we designed waste out from the source. Consisting of only 52 colours hair professionals can make ANY colour giving them creative freedom and the ability to work smarter with a lighter footprint.
When you buy SOPHIC, you support Australian businesses and contribute to a healthier planet and responsible industry.
UNITED NATIONS SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS
We take seriously our social and environmental responsibility, ensuring we do business in ways that benefit, rather than harm, society and reduce our footprint on the planet. We are proud to be an active participant in the 2030 Agenda. The 2030 Agenda is made up of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) that form a road map for achieving a happier and healthier world by 2030 and beyond. Our team have always worked toward transforming our world into a better one, so this agenda is well-aligned with our interests - especially since we have significant influence supplying to consumers and salons across Australia and New Zealand. In response to today's changing environment, "we need to turn the recovery into a real opportunity to do things right for the future" (UN Secretary-General António Guterres). We’re here to change the hair and beauty industry!
GOAL 3 | GOOD HEALTH AND WELL-BEING
Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages.
Every day, we are exposed to around 126 chemicals through hair and beauty products. These chemicals are harmful to our health often linked to cancer, etc and other health problems. We are stand strong on not allowing any harsh chemicals within our products to keep it as natural as possible. As the saying goes, beautiful inside and out.
GOAL 10 | REDUCED INEQUALITIES
Reduce inequality within and among countries.
Even though the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures is at least 40,000 years old making it one of the oldest cultures on Earth, they represent 3.3% of the total population of Australia. We acknowledge that they are the traditional owners of the land and have so much knowledge and a deep connection with country we all need to learn from. Through showcasing the best of Australia, we hope to also preserve the Aboriginal culture that is integral to the history (and future) of Australia.
GOAL 12 | RESPONSIBLE CONSUMPTION AND PRODUCTION
Ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns.
The Australian beauty industry is worth a massive $3.73 billion dollars. It’s time to re-think our consumption! As a business we have responsibility to reduce impact on our planet. We promote conscious consumption and want to reduce consumption and offer a better alternative to consumers, products that don’t harm people, animals and planet.
GOAL 13 | CLIMATE ACTION
Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts.
We are in the middle of a climate emergency. To ensure that there is a future for the hair and beauty industry we need to make changes as a collective. We want to help lead the way to a more responsible and healthy industry. Our products prove that you don’t need to make a compromise between performance and sustainability.
GOAL 17 | PARTNERSHIPS FOR THE GOALS
Strengthen the means of implementation and revitalise the global partnership for sustainable development.
Our products are a collective effort of Australian farmers, industry experts and businesses. We love working with other like-minded businesses and individuals. We are stronger together and every small change adds up. We want help other hair and beauty brands re-evaluate their products, ingredients and businesses to use their powers for good because we are stronger together. Want to partner with us?
